Thank you for putting this package together and making it available here.
I found your link in the comment you left on WordPress TV- "Installing WordPress Locally Using WampServer"
I will now be able to show my client the design propsals for her website, and change them in real time.
Excellent!

Subject: wp By: Robbie Date: 13/12/2009

Hi,

I dont know your name, but i guess its amazing what you just put all together! :) I understood the way where you started to think on to make the portable WP, my thinking way is a bit different:

I am using wp on my sites, and I was looking for an offline client, where i can use different things on my offline environment:

- my own contact manager (importing my contacts from social networks, emails, outlook, msn, skype, etc)
- my own task manager (using time, project managegement, my private cost planning)
- my own online social communicator (events, send newsletters, cms)
- online album to share pictures with my friends
- If I want I can sync my offline data with my websites or mobile devices, if not, then i can use it only offline

My vision is to trying to leave windows environment to a Browser based wordpress environment, where you can do anything basic what you need. Nearly all of them has plugins in wordpress, but its still not too easy to customize them through the ajax surface, but i think its quickly developing..

So, my question are as follows:

- Can you add a feature to this solution for security reasons? (add security options/features in browsers, viewable options for sharing my single standalone wordpress to the world)

Thanks for the great work!:)

Robbie

Subject: Re: wp By: WordPress Portable Date: 05/01/2010

Hi Robbie,

I'm sorry to tell you that WordPress Portable is not intended to be used as a secure environment. If you notice, the wamp stack is made with stripped down and outdated versions of software. There are important reasons for this to be this way.

I hope you can use WPP for testing and development though. Thank you for your kind words.

Hi,

thanks for your work! However, on my machine I need to change the port of the Apache server. I have found out how I can change the port even for wordpress but now when I log in it only redirects me to the login page. Can you recommend a way to change this port from 80 to something else with Wordpress Portable?

Many thanks,
Bob

Subject: Re: Changing Apache port By: WordPress Portable Date: 14/01/2010

Edit wp-config.php and define the variables WP_SITEURL and WP_HOME with your new address (e.g. https://localhost:8080/wordpress). For more information on how to do it please check https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php

Let me know if it works.

Hi Michael,

You can use the export/import features available on wordpress. You can find it in menu "tools".
If you have done some theme customization you may also have to copy your custom theme to the server.

Thanks.

Subject: Error establishing a database connection By: Mitch Date: 16/03/2010

All went great with the set-up, and the blog was up and running for two weeks. Today, in the middle of adding a sidebar widget, I couldn't update the blog. I logged out and tried to log back in and now get the database error.

1) How do I access the database? Because this hosted locally, I don't know how to access phpMyAdmin, and the installation instructions were a mystery.

2) I have not changed wp-config. Is there some other reason that this error suddenly would block me from accessing the local site?

If anyone has any ideas how to address this error on an unhosted, portable blog, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you.

Subject: Re: Error establishing a database connection By: Mitch Date: 17/03/2010

Here is how I got the blog to work again.

1) phpMyAdmin. I could not successfully install pma; kept getting an error indicating I was having permissions issues ("Cannot start session without errors..."). I did not know how to fix permissions on local files (since this is a local install). Tried everything I could to update permissions on folders.

2) Error logs. I checked the error logs in apache2/bin and saw which table was corrupted.

3) Database repair. I added a line to the config.inc.php to allow database repair, but it failed.

4) Backup file. I pulled the original download of WP Portable, copied the files from mysql/data for the corrupted table and overwrote them.

I lost only a few fixes from that table, but my site was right back up.

The culprit was the footer widgets, which I see from comments have caused trouble for other. I have commented them out now so they can't wreak havoc again.

Subject: Re: Re: Error establishing a database connection By: WordPress Portable Date: 22/03/2010

Hi Mitch,

Sorry I couldn't answer you sooner. I'm glad you managed to correct that issue successfully.

For future reference, I use HeidiSQL (also portable) to connect to the database. It's a good substitute to phpMyAdmin.

Thank you for puting the workaround here.

Subject: Re: Re: Re: Error establishing a database connection By: Mitch Date: 29/03/2010

Actually, wp_options crashed again today, and I did not want to have to rebuild again from a swapped in table. So I did try HeidiSQL, thanks, and was able to access the tables and do a repair and optimize. Unfortunately, categories are a bit screwy now (the sub-cats don't all show up now in the top navbar or side). But at least I have a solution for table admin - thank you!

Subject: Re: Re: Re: Re: Error establishing a database connection By: Mitch Date: 29/03/2010

If anyone else runs into this, the two tables that crashed were wp_options and wp_term_relationships. When I checked my posts in WP, the categories were still visible in Edit Posts, but when I looked at Categories, many of them showed posts=0 for some categories (even though the posts still displayed the category in Edit Posts). That's why they were not showing up in the sidebar.

I went back to Edit Posts and quick edited those posts to delete the category, save, then reselect the category, and it synched back up.

Went into Heidi but could not find the table that connected posts to categories.

WordPress 3.0 will come with mutliple site capabilities. Right now you have to install WordPress yourself in another folder. To connect to the database you must use the user root with no password.

What I do now is keep a full WP-Portable stack for each project.

Please help me!

Thanks

Subject: Re: Change Language By: JS Date: 08/01/2011

To install the german Wordpress
- Download it from https://wordpress-deutschland.org/download/deutsch/.
- Stop Wordpress Portable
- Rename the Wordpress Portable-Subfolder /www/wordpress to /www.wordpress_en or something.
- Than extract the downloaded german package, it will create again a supfolder wordpress
- Start Wordpress Portable
- Open \WP-Portable\www\wordpress\wp-admin\install.php and follow the instructions.
- Needed Infos for that: DB-Name: wordpress / DB-User: root / Kein DB-Passwort / Datenbank-Host: localhost / Tabellen-Präfix: wp_
- When Wordpress mention that there's already an WP Installation use the given possibility to log in.
- Use the shown button to update the database
- Now you got a german wordpress.
- If you want you can now (after everything works) delete the old folder wordpress_en

Without the database-entrys just copy the content of your theme and maybe the plugin-folder to the one in your hosting account.
To get the database-entrys you have to backup and restore them manually or maybe use a Backup/Restor-PlugIn.

Subject: Change Apache Port By: JS Date: 08/01/2011

Hi. Everything works very well, thanks for this part of Software. But with this standard configuration of Apache it isn't (maybe only for me?) possible to usw Wordpress Portable next to Skype. The reason is the used Port 80.

I testet your hint:
"Edit wp-config.php and define the variables WP_SITEURL and WP_HOME with your new address (e.g. https://localhost:8080/wordpress). For more information on how to do it please check https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php

And it didn't work. I think I also have to change the Port in the /bin/apache2/conf/httpd.conf where in the "Listen 80" Line. But that also didn't work ... :(

Any Idea? Thanks for your help.

Subject: Some .ini amendments and exit fix for Windows 7 By: Constantino Date: 01/02/2012

Hi

Apologies, I am not a programmer or developer so its possible some of the below is wrong.

1. The links to WP-Portable website are wrong or out of date. Obviously they should be https://wordpress-portable.webnode.com/ see under [AboutText] and [Website]

2. The command tskill.exe does not work in Windows 7 Home Premium. In order to make the application quit successfully you need to use taskkill.exe. Under [ExitProgram] replace this line:
Action: run; FileName: "%System%\tskill.exe"; Parameters: "httpd-wpp"; WorkingDir: "%System%"; ShowCmd: hidden;
with this
Action: run; FileName: "%System%\taskkill.exe"; Parameters: "/f /im httpd-wpp.exe"; WorkingDir: "%System%"; ShowCmd: hidden;

3. To add a menu shortcut to the theme folder in the tray menu do the following (maybe someone can help improve this part as this will have to be tailored to each user as the explorer command uses windows switches so I couldn't set it to open to the right folder without typing out the entire path) Under [Menu.Right] and [Menu.Left] enter the following line:
Type: item; Caption: "Browse Theme Folder"; Action: multi; Actions: Browse; Glyph: 2
NB: The glyph file is in bin/wpp/ and is called wpp.gli. Open with an image viewer to see the icons (Windows Photo Viewer works). The icons are numbered 0-18 left to right.
Also add Type:separator if required
Then add a new item somewhere below, for example between [Wordpress] and [PhpInfo]:
[Browse]
Action: shellexecute; Filename: "%System%\explorer.exe"; Parameters: "/root,c:\<YOUR_WP-PORTABLE-FOLDER>\www\wordpress/"

Hope this is of some use to someone...

Subject: how to "uninstall" wp portable? By: Nicole Date: 07/02/2012

When I go to localhost/wordpress it gives me a blank page and says "wp-portable." After spending hours not being able to get this to work I'm just going to go back to setting up a dev server on a subdomain for the wp sites I work on. Is there anything I need to do to simply "uninstall" wp-portable so no trace I left on my system or can I just delete the entire folder I extracted and be done with it?

thanks...

Subject: Re: how to "uninstall" wp portable? By: Rich Date: 09/02/2012

After you double click wp-portable.exe, a WordPress icon appears in the system tray.

Right click on the icon and select "open WordPress in browser" the browser should open with the default WP page.

Note that at some point you might get a warning from your anti-virus software. Just allow it proceed.

To get to the Dashboard, click "Log in" and use "admin" as both the user name and password.

When done with WP, right click on the WP icon and select "Exit". This shuts down the webserver.

I have hosting which I paid for with a hosting company and they do offer MySQL and Installatron versions of WordPress, but I really like the idea of being able to work on a WordPress blog on my own PC, so I have all the benefits of the speed of working off my own hard drive. I also have a long list f plugins I usually have to manually add to each of my WordPress websites, so was thinking I could start off with your basic version of WordPress and then add all the plugins I usually use and then just copy the entire folder and then I have the basics for any future websites i setup in WordPress.

So far everything seems to be working really well. But what I want to know is if I design a website using this portable system, how do I go about importing the entire thing to my hosting company's server?

I assume I can just copy the files and import the MySQL Database, but where do I find the default database usernames and passwords?

By default, I can access it from localhost/wordpress. You can try the following:

2. Copy the folder "mysql\data\wordpress" to a new one (e.g. "mysql\data\wordpress2")
3. Edit the file "www\wordpress2\wp-config.php" and change the database name to "wordpress2"

Hope that will do,

Subject: Great Job! By: Bob Bobson Date: 06/01/2013

Brilliant work.

I recently set out to “portablize” my WordPress installation (and whole webserver) to untether it from my system so that I could run it from other systems.

I tried everything I couldfind like XAMPP, WampServer, UniServer, server2go, etc. Unfortunately even the truly portable webservers which did not require installing Windows services, were still unpleasant, overkill, and abstract too much (you may as well use installers instead of portable zipped copies). This did not mesh well with my hands-on approach of manually configuring everything.

I looked around, nearly giving up, then I found this. WPP was terrific. It was a minimalistic, portable WordPress installation. After examining how it works for a bit, I was able to transfer over my webservers config files, binaries, and data so that I can run an up-to-date web-server with all my features (like SSL) from anywhere anytime.

I am currently examining the documentation for AestanMenu to learn how to extend WPP even further (like adding my VisualSVNServer installation, process controls, easy access to my blogs, etc.)

Thanks again for WPP!

Subject: Каким путем нарисовать лимон рисуем с использованием красками гуашь By: Danielseiny Date: 13/02/2024
